On Earth Day, let’s refocus our attention on an overlooked aspect of sustainability: wood waste management.
EU’s demand for wood, a valuable natural resource, will outstrip production by 2030. While sustainable forestry practices can ensure responsible wood management to meet the growing demand and balance regeneration, there is an untapped potential to extract enormous quantities of wood contained in Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste and Furniture Waste.
Recycling these streams can provide an abundant and cost-effective raw material source for new materials, thereby reducing the reliance on virgin wood, and taking the pressure off forests.
And this is where initiatives like the Wood2Wood (W2W) project’s transformative approach to wood waste management comes into play, aligning perfectly with the ethos of Earth Day.
▶ The W2W project focuses on reusing, repurposing, recycling, and valorising wood waste.
▶Through an innovative multi-dimensional cascade valorisation process, wood waste is transformed into new products, minimising waste and maximising value.
▶One of our core objectives is to increase the use of secondary resources in the process industry leading to significant increase in resource efficiency across the value chain and subsequent reduction of CO2 emissions, reduction of waste sent to landfill and overall positive environmental impact.
